glx evidence

Show all evidence for a property, grouped by value

Synopsis

Display every assertion for one subject+property side-by-side, grouped by value, with the supporting citations and confidence for each.

Where "glx analyze" emits a one-line conflict warning and "glx proof" summarizes a resolved question, "glx evidence" is for questions still in active research: it lays out the conflicting answers so you can weigh them. For each value it shows the supporting reports (citation and source), counts them, and reports the best confidence. Time-varying properties show dated history, with undated claims in their own section. Best evidence is chosen only among claims whose periods could overlap. Disproven claims are excluded. Other properties highlight the best-supported value, or note when the leading values tie.

All comparisons use the same rules as analyze, proof and merge-persons: precision and place-hierarchy refinements agree; approximate date values use ±2 years by default (--approximation-years overrides this). Distinct place IDs stay distinct.

The subject is any entity an assertion can be about — a person, event, place, or relationship — matching what "glx add assertion" accepts. That matters because the two properties most likely to have conflicting answers, date and place, are normally asserted on the event rather than on the person.

A subject is resolved by exact entity ID first (e.g., event-death-1807), then, for persons only, by name search (e.g., "Jane Miller"); if the name matches multiple persons, all matches are listed for disambiguation. The property is matched exactly, with a case-insensitive fallback when no exact match exists. Place, person, and event reference values resolve to the referenced entity's name.
